Few make us stop and think about what we see. James Reid does, perfectly.

Producing a film about James Reid and his photography is more than just a creative experience.

Talking to James Reid about any subject matter is an absolute pleasure, but talking about his photography, and his decades-long approach to creating this particular body of work Edinburgh - An Architectural Portrait, and his relationship with the city, was a true privilege.

Conversations

Together, James and I have often talked about Edinburgh, a city that has played such a significant role in our lives, so it was an enlightening and enjoyable experience to finally sit down with Jimmi in Kay’s Bar and film one of our many conversations.

In discussion with James Reid

This 15-minute documentary includes a wide selection of James Reid’s Edinburgh photography, footage of James as we wander around Edinburgh visiting locations key to the book’s narrative, as well as our own conversations.

Photography

Reid’s chronicling of Edinburgh is monumental, but not in the traditional sense. It celebrates the residential house with the same deference as the city’s famed landmarks.
